About Us

About:

In April 2018, Silk Road Souq was established as a corporation in Los Angeles, California. We work with soap artisans in Syria who lack essential resources and are faced with many economic and social challenges. We aim to be the channel that helps their products find new markets. All of our soap is thoughtfully packaged with eco-friendly materials in our Los Angeles warehouse.

Concept:

How do we work? We are creating a home brand for the global citizen. We believe that your space should reflect who you are and express your story and your values. We go out of the ordinary to find authentic items using ethical sourcing methods. We embrace these values in our souq by providing a beautiful and unique collection of items while using our business energy to create sustainable social change.

Who are we?

Lama Nakami is a Syrian – American citizen and a mom of 3 kids founded Silk Road Souq in 2018 based on her passion for connecting Syrian artisans with global markets to create a positive social change.

Prior to Silk Road Souq, she worked with a European business center that supported small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in both Europe and Syria. The Old Souq of Aleppo is part of her childhood, as she used to go with her father to their shop that sold hand-loomed towels and bathrobes. That rich experience combined with her business background and entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Silk Road Souq.

Lama holds a BS in Economics from the University of Aleppo and an MBA from Spring Arbor University in Michigan.
